We cannot see snake’s ears but that doesn’t mean that they can’t hear.

Snakes do have a kind of ear that is inside their heads. It is located near the lower jaw. Snake can hear VIBRATIONS that come through the ground. These sound waves pass from the ground to the bones of its jaw and then to the bones of its ear.

So with their head on the ground, snakes are able to hear earth borne vibrations.
